A driver was taken to hospital with a head injury after a crash closed the east-bound carriageway of the A299 at Minster.
The accident was between the B2048 Minster Road at the Minster roundabout and Canterbury Road West.
Kent Police was called at 4pm following a two-car collision.
One lane of the A299 was closed and the driver of one of the vehicles was taken to a local hospital with a head injury.
Congestion stretched back to Cliffsend Roundabout on the west-bound side.
Traffic was being turned round, causing the west-bound congestion.
