A car plunged down a cliff during a police chase.
Kent Police officers started the pursuit last night in Northdown Road in Ramsgate after flagging a Peugeot 207 to stop at 12.20am.
Officers started the chase after he reportedly failed to stop and started a pursuit.
A police spokesman said the incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct to investigate.
The chase, which lasted four minutes, ended when the car smashed through a barrier in Victoria Parade before crashing into a building on Marine Road, which suffered some damage, police said.
The driver was treated for serious injuries after the crash on the seafront in Marine Road at 12.25am.
He was taken to a London hospital but has since been discharged.
The man, in his 30s, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.
Police said he remains in custody this morning.
Detectives are now appealing for witnesses to the crash and who may have seen the silver Peugeot before the incident, during the chase and of the crash.
Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit have also asked for anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.
