A family restaurant has been given a damning food hygiene rating at its outlet in Margate, it has emerged.
The Brewers Fayre pub was handed an overall score of just one star out of five following an announced inspection in November - the second worst rating possible.
Food inspectors who visited The Promenade in Station Road found the management of food safety was not up to scratch, calling for the restaurant to make major improvements.
In two other categories - the hygienic handling of food and cleanliness and condition of facilities and building - it was rated very good.
The Food Standards Agency, which carries out the inspections, defines management of food safety as: "System or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.".
Thanet District Council says it is unable to release November's report.
A spokesman for Whitbread said: "Prompt steps have already been taken to make the necessary improvements.
"The EHO has already been back to site on January 8 and awarded the site a four star FHRS.
"This should be uploaded to the site very shortly if indeed it’s not already displayed."
Thanet council could not confirm this as the premises is "still under investigation".
A council spokesman said: "We can’t release anything other than what is on the FSA website.
"The results of any subsequent inspections will be published there."
