A Margate mum has spoken of her horror after a finding a revolting green substance on a chicken breast fillet she got from Asda.
Jasmine Ayles bought the meat from the Broadstairs branch on Thursday, February 22 and was shocked to find the mysterious matter on one of the fillets.
Miss Ayles says she was particularly disgusted at the risks it could have posed to her if she'd eaten it as she is almost eight months pregnant.
She said: "It's absolutely disgusting, and to think I nearly fed it to my one-year-old.
"It's only because I was dicing it up that I noticed it - if I'd put it straight on the grill I may have eaten it and it could have made us seriously ill.
When the mother-of-one took the chicken back, she was offered a £5 voucher.
Miss Ayles added: "The chicken itself was £3.80 - cost me more than that to get there in fuel."
Asda has apologised for the "inconvenience" and say the substance posed no health risks.
A spokesman said: “We want our customers to know they can trust us to provide great quality products.
"Having investigated this complaint, we’ve been able to reassure Ms Ayles that the discoloration she found does occasionally happen.
"Whilst it is naturally occurring and poses no risk to health, we completely agree that this isn’t what you’d hope to find when preparing dinner and can only apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
