Gale forces winds and driving rain have washed out Margate’s Loud’n’Proud festive parade.

The decision to cancel the annual event was taken by the organisers after walking the procession route in the face of very strong high winds and rain.

A spokesman said: “It is extremely disappointing for the town and the hundreds of people taking part. For health and safety reasons it would not have been possible for the procession with flags, banners, and large carnival characters to go ahead.

“We will rearrange the event for the New Year.”
