A full-scale alert was launched when a pile of unattended clothes was spotted - Reggie Perrin style - on a secluded beach.

The inshore lifeboat crew scrambled at around 6.50am today at Broadstairs.

But they were stood down moments later, when the clothes at Stone Bay were found to belong to an early morning swimmer.
