The organisers of one of Kent's biggest fireworks displays have been forced to postpone the event for public safety reasons.
Thousands were expected at Quex Park in Birchington later today for the popular event, with the new team behind it pledging to put on a good show despite the poor weather.
But following advice from safety officials, they say they have had little choice but to put the display off until a later date.
Organsier Tom Cain said: "It's incredibly disappointing to have to cancel the event at this late stage as it's our first year and we were so excited about putting on a great show.
"But public safety is absolutely paramount and we have to listen to the advice we've been given.
"We know people will be disappointed, and will have questions.
“We hope to have news for them on when the display can be rescheduled, at which point we will keep all of our ticket holders updated."
News of the postponement has sparked a mixed reaction from those looking forward to attending the event.
Hayden Hay is among those disappointed about how late the news was announced.
"Absolute joke. People have paid excessive money to come down, booked time off work for it to be cancelled last minute," he wrote.
Michelle Cooper wrote: "Omg, with all the moaning. Yes, it would have been amazing to go but it is not there fault the weather is bad. They're putting the public safety first and they're also losing out on a lot of money themselves."
Sonia Daffodils added: "I'm so sorry you have had to make this decision. I really appreciate how much planning and expense would have gone into this. I look forward to a new date and wish you better luck in the future."
Organsiers are asking anyone with enquiries to email contact@quexparkfireworks.co.uk with the subject line QPR Postponement.
They add: "The event attracts a large number of visitors therefore we anticipate a significant increase in administration. We ask for your patience during this time to allow us to process your enquiry.
"Please be assured we will do our utmost to update and respond in a timely manner."
Elsewhere today, Ashford Rugby Club postponed its fireworks display for a week because of a burst drain.
Another display that was cancelled was at Doddington, near Sittingbourne.
Due to take place at Palace Farm, it was called off because "organisers feel that it was unsafe to proceed with the event".
