Jarvis Cocker, the singer and songwriter from Pulp is the latest well-known visitor to Margate’s Dreamland - pitching up in the town yesterday to take a look at the reopened attraction.
Perhaps inevitably the presence of the man who fronted Britopop band Pulp was quickly picked up by many, with a steady stream of tweets, selfies and Facebook postings.
It seemed to be a co-incidence that he was in town the same day as Labour leadership hopeful and bookies’ favourite Jeremy Corbyn was.
Pulp hit the big time in the Britpop era in the 1990s, although they had been releasing albums for years before making the charts.
Their best known songs include Common People, Disco 2000, Do You Remember the First Time and Babies.
As to his visit to Margate, the reason was unclear but the singer happily posed for the odd photo.
Jarvis was also seen checking out the Grayson Perry Provincial Punk exhibition at Turner Contemporary.
Those that spotted him, despite his dark glasses and beard took and tweed jacket, took inspiration from his back catalogue to post on social media.
Dreamland itself quickly latched on to Jarvis’ presence and on its Facebook page began a caption competition:
