Who-mania gave Thanet’s Westwood Cross shopping centre a distinctly other-worldly feel at the weekend.
Fans of the long-running sci-fi series took part in a Dr Who themed festival as part of a funraising celebration in support of the learning disability charity Mencap.
From making monster art and a sci-fi sweet trail, to a treasure hunt and quiz, there was something for all Whovians including the chance to come face-to-face with some of the Timelord’s deadliest enemies including the Daleks and the Cybermen, as well as the opportunity to explore memorablia including his trusty sonic screwdriver.
Francesca Donovan, centre manager at Westwood Cross, said: “Doctor Who is back on our screens and in celebration of the new series, we wanted to bring a little time-travelling magic to Thanet. It helped raise much-needed funds for our charity partner Mencap to support the fantastic work they do in the community for people with learning disabilities.”
Other businesses supporting the event included Ramsgate’s Wonderland Sweets, and art group Luniac Designs.
Mencap supports people with learning disabilities, their families and carers by fighting to change laws, improve services and access to education, employment and leisure facilities. For more information call 0808 808 1111 (9am-5pm, Monday-Friday) or email help@mencap.org.uk
