Thanet Neighbourhood Watch liaison officer Terry McCormick has turned to verse to help highlight the 'don’t drink and drive’ message to motorists during the festive season.
He said: “I have penned a few lines that I hope will play a small part in making our roads safer for the festive season. I hope people will read it and think twice.”
Life or Death Decision
“The mist feels much colder, but it does this time of year,
As the church bell strikes a single note, I wonder why I’m here.
With friends and family gathered, why do they look in sorrow,
At this surreal scene unfolding where I have no tomorrow.
“The mist feels much colder, and the day is growing dark,
In a world that cannot hear me, the truth is all too stark.
The gift of life has left me now, too late to take the blame,
It’s up to those I’ve left behind to bear the grief and shame.
“The mist feel much colder, and it chills me to the bone,
To see my name carved neatly across that marble stone.
If I could only get a life, I wouldn’t drink and drive,
You make the right decision - and keep yourself alive.”
