Two men allegedly ‘dragged and carried’ drunk woman away from Clique bar in Ramsgate with intent to sexually assault her

A drunk woman described as "out of it" feared she would be raped by two strangers after they allegedly "dragged and carried" her away from a bar.

Gaitis Dukovskis and Marek Brokim are accused of kidnapping the complainant during a night out at Clique in Ramsgate's Harbour Parade in 2022.

CCTV footage played to jurors at Canterbury Crown Court showed her being escorted from the bar shortly after 3am, with Brokim's arm around her and Dukovskis leaving approximately 50 seconds later.

But by the time they passed Palace Amusements, the "limp" woman was being carried by Dukovskis, with Brokim walking alongside them.

The court heard having found herself at a property in Kent Terrace, she managed to push the two men away and dial 999 after they allegedly tried to undo her trousers.

She then fled and hid behind a car until help arrived.

The defendants were arrested and told police that having met the woman they tried to help her to walk as she was intoxicated.

But they maintained they left her alone when she made it clear she did not want their assistance.

They denied taking the woman back to a house or trying to unfasten her trousers.

Dukovskis, 37, of St Mildred's Road, Ramsgate, and Brokim, 46, of Bramley Close, Ash, near Canterbury, are both accused of kidnap and kidnap with intent to commit a sexual offence.

At the start of their trial, prosecutor Ben Wild told the court: "This case is about the defendants taking a woman away from a club when she was drunk, taking her back to their address, and undoing her trousers, before she managed to escape."

Detailing the complainant's account of what happened, he continued: "She describes being shoved and dragged to a nearby property on Kent Terrace. While there, in the dark, and against a wall, the defendants started undoing her trousers.

"She, at this point, thought that she was going to be raped. However, she managed to push the defendants away and ran into the street.

"She then hid behind a car and called 999."

In her call, which was made at 3.12am and played to the jury, the woman could be heard sobbing as she told the operator she did not know her whereabouts.

Repeatedly pleading for help, she said: "Please save me. They dragged me here. Please, as quick as you can."

The woman could also be heard veering between anger and distress as she addressed someone in the background, saying: "Who are you? I didn't want to come with you. F*** off! Get away from me please."

Once she had managed to flee and hide, she became barely audible as she adopted a whisper while the operator tried to trace her phone and location.

The court heard that during her night out, the complainant and a friend had briefly spoken to two men in Clique's smoking area, engaging in what was described as "general chit-chat".

One of them could not speak any English, it was said, and the other was said to be Eastern European.

The friend, who cannot be named to protect the alleged victim's legal right to anonymity, also told the court when she saw them again they "stuck out" to her.

"I don't know if it was a gut instinct," she explained. "They were sitting there, they didn't have any drinks in their hands.

"They just sat there and I think that just stuck in my mind."

The two women then continued enjoying their night before becoming separated.

The friend then headed home, telling the jury she thought her pal had "perhaps had enough and got a taxi home" herself.

When she woke later that morning she saw she had missed a call from the woman so rang her back.

"She explained to me what had happened, she had called police and that someone would want to speak to me," the friend told the jury.

"She told me she had left the pub and came out to look for me and had been approached by two men who had picked her up and carried her away, and that she had screamed and something had been interrupted.

"It was very muddled - she was speaking really fast and she was very upset."

Asked by Mr Wild whether her friend's upset state was "normal", the woman continued: "No. She was hysterically upset. She can be very calm but she was incredibly upset."

She added that both she and her friend had been "very drunk" by 3am. But she agreed when questioned by defence barrister Daniel Cohen that there was no reason to consider her friend was "in danger" or that "anything untoward" was going on.

The jury heard the woman had been sick twice while at Clique and doorman Michael Cooper fetched her a drink of water to try to sober her up.

She was walking off, or being propped up and walking off with a gentleman. She was out of it...

He told the jury she was on her own but when he returned with the drink he saw her walking away while being "propped up" by a man.

"She was walking off, or being propped up and walking off with a gentleman," explained Mr Cooper. "She was out of it."

He added neither of the two men, who he had seen with the woman earlier that night, had tried to leave the woman in the care of bar staff.

Mr Cooper also agreed he would have alerted someone if he had seen anything to cause concern.

Dukovskis and Brokim were arrested at the property in Kent Terrace.

As part of the investigation, police used CCTV to trace the defendants as they allegedly took the woman away from the bar, away from nearby taxi ranks, and in the opposite direction she needed to go.

PC James Howard confirmed in court that no other men had been caught on camera with the complainant at that time or location.

The trial continues.
