A farmer who lifted the bra of a sleeping woman to fondle her breasts has been convicted of sexual assault - after filming the attack on his mobile phone.

Guy Smith videoed himself groping his victim and deleted the footage, but it was later discovered by police, Canterbury Crown Court heard.

Smith, 47, of Canterbury Road in St Nicholas-at-Wade, near Birchington, has now received a six-month community order and been told to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work for the community.

Smith initially claimed his actions were for non-sexual reasons but after further consultations with his lawyer entered a guilty to plea to sexual assault.

The two-minute video was shown to Judge Rupert Lowe, who told him: “There is no doubt that this was a sexual assault - there is no other logical way of looking at it.

“You may have had ulterior motives, going beyond a sexual motive, but I have watched it and it was definitely sexual touching.

“This was the most disgraceful thing to do and the effect on your victim has been absolutely devastating.”
