The multi-award-winning Cliftonville Farmers’ Market struck gold at the Kent Life & Kent on Sunday Food & Drink Awards, winning the Farmers' Market of the year.

Market manager, June Chadband, says this award will take pride of place with all their other awards from over the years - Taste of Kent award winners, Best Farmers’ Market in Kent 2006, 2007, 2008, 2014 and Pride in Thanet awards 2008, 2015 and 2016.

The market was started by June and her late husband Keith in September 2001 and celebrated its 16th anniversary this year.

It originally opened with just six stalls and now has between 20 and 25.

June said: “We have a really lovely group of helpful stallholders who go that extra mile for their customers.

“The judge remarked on what a lovely site it was, with evert changing sea views.

“It is run by volunteers from the Cliftonville Residents Association who give their time for free.

“I am absolutely thrilled with the award and received it on behalf of the CRA and particularly in memory of my late husband Keith who started the market with me.

“I would like to thank all the loyal customers who have visited over the years and all who took the time to vote for us.

“We look forward to seeing you all at the next market on Sunday, October 29. when all our great stallholders will be there selling everything from wild game to vegetarian.”

Cliftonville Farmers’ Market is held on the Oval Lawns, Eastern Esplanade, Cliftonville on the last Sunday of every month from 10am until 1pm.

On offer is a wide range of products including fruit, vegetables, meat and plants and all producers are from within a 25 mile radius.

Former stall holders include Paul Hollywood, of the Great British Bake Off, who sold his artisan bread at the market before finding fame.
