Firefighters were called to the scene of a bedroom blaze at a five-storey hotel.
Five fire engines and a height vehicle were sent to the Nayland Rock Hotel in Royal Crescent at about 7.50am.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire in a room on the third floor, using a hose reel jet and a main jet.
A high pressure fan is being used to clear the building of smoke.
There are no reported casualties and the cause is not yet known.
