Fire crews were called to tackle two massive blazes at an allotment in Dane Valley, Margate.

The cause of both fires is believed to be deliberate.

On the Dane Valley Councillors Facebook page, Cllr Gary Taylor said: "The scene I was at of a massive allotment fire at Dane Valley last night at 8.45pm ..let's hope the culprits are found.

"Allotment holders put in hours of effort.

"The ones I spoke to last night are so annoyed by the latest destruction."

"Update - another fire was started around 145am this morning in same vicinity."

A fire service spokesman said: "Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to a shed fire in Dane Valley Road, Margate.

"On arrival crews found a garden shed on allotments well alight which had spread to surrounding trees and damaged other out buildings.

"Crews used a main jet to extinguish the blaze.

"The cause is believed to have been deliberate."

Crews were called to the scene at 8.15pm and had put the fire out by 8.54, but we called back within four hours.

KFRS spokesman said: "Crews were later called to the same location to tackle another shed fire (12:24am).

"Crews used a hose reel jet to extinguished the fire, which is believed to have been deliberate.

"They left the scene at 12:49am."

Cllr Gary Hillman said: "It's time the police took positive action on the few that cause so much grief for the many."

Police have been made aware of the fire.

A spokesman said: "Kent Police was made aware by Kent Fire and Rescue Service of a fire in allotments in Dane Valley Road, Margate at 9.24pm on Tuesday 26 September 2017.

"Officers attended the scene.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident."
