Firefighters tackled a large blaze above a furniture shop last night forcing the closure of a road.

Crews went to Sweyn Road in Margate at around 4.15am to the fire, and luckily the occupants managed to escape unharmed.

The property is said to be at the junction with Northdown Road.

It is not known how it started and it has been confirmed that a fire investigation will take place today to determine details.

The police were also called and were in attendance.

No injuries were reported.

It is understood the road is no longer closed.
