A dog is back with his foster carers after a seven-hour rescue operation to free him from a hole in a Margate cliff face.

Romanian rescue dog Otis was stuck in the hole at Fort Hill for seven hours yesterday afternoon while a tech team from Kent Fire and Rescue Service tried to prise him out.

Dog fosterer Heather Tait said: “We were so relieved to see him back safe and well.

“It was a really difficult operation and we are very grateful to the tech team at Kent Fire and Rescue. They were amazing.

“These firefighters need our support as their pensions are threatened and I thought they did a fantastic job.”

Miss Tait and partner Jo Murray are fosterers for Angels 4 Dogs, a not-for-profit dog rescue charity.

She added: “Otis is just one of the dogs from the charity needing a home.”

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We sent an officer out first to inspect because the last thing we wanted to do was for anyone to go into a hole without assistance.

“A technical rescue team made greater access in the cliff for the dog to escape using a snake-eye camera and hand tools.

“The team left the area after making the cliff back up at around 7.30pm.”
