The owner of a new beachfront bistro due to open its doors in May has given a first glimpse of how the glass-fronted venue will look.
Paul Glicksman, who already runs Paul’s Bistro and Frederick’s tearooms in Westgate-on-Sea, is spending thousands transforming the St Mildred’s Bay café into a wine bar and restaurant.
The former Pav’s building will have floor to ceiling glass panels at the front, with views out to sea, and will serve breakfasts, lunches and evening meals.
The ice cream parlour at one end will also remain open, selling take away food and drinks, running as a separate business.
“This new bistro will be great for Westgate and I’m getting a really good vibe from people already, they’re excited for it to open,” said Mr Glicksman.
“The plan is to be open at the end of May, taking into account what’s happening at the moment.
“It’s going to be a bistro, wine and champagne bar, which will also do cocktails. People can come in for quality food or just pop in for a drink if they want.
“We’re going to do seafood, steaks, vegetarian, vegan - a bit of everything. There will be seating inside for 80 people, 60 in the garden area and allocation for seating out the front.”
Mr Glicksman says there will be air conditioning throughout the open plan venue, which will be called the St Mildred’s Bay Bistro and Wine Bar, as the 3.5 metre glass panels at the front will be fixed.
He added: “We’re keeping the ice cream parlour, which will do take away teas, coffees, ice creams, fish and chips and sell beach stuff.
“People were keen to see that stay.”
He says he is looking to employ 20 people, consisting of four chefs, waiting staff and bar staff.
“We’ve had Paul’s Bistro for two years and it’s been great, people love it and it’s been a real success,” he said.
“We’ve also got Frederik’s tea room next to the Carlton.
“This new bistro will be a great addition.”
