Residents are being warned to take care after a flood alert was issued across north Kent.

The warning in place along the coastline from Dartford to the Isle of Sheppey, and further eastwards to Whitstable, Herne Bay, Margate, due to high spring tides.

Tides will be at their highest between 2.30am and 4am tomorrow (Monday) morning.

Flooding of roads, footpaths and low lying land is possible between these times, the government warns, although flooding of properties is not expected.

In a statement online this evening, the Met Office said: "We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are operating our defences and structures.

"We are actively monitoring the situation and are prepared to respond if required.

"Please be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads."
