A family football fun day will take place on Sunday to help give a young boy a fighting chance against a crippling disease.
There will be activities for all ages from noon with football action from 2pm at Baypoint, near Sandwich, in aid of the Caring For Connor campaign.
Connor Olsen, four, from Westgate, who is just starting at St Crispin’s Infant School, was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy in March.
The rare and crippling muscle wasting disease has a statistically grim prognosis.
The condition is progressive. Connor tires and falls down easily and finds stairs a challenge but is so far unaware of his illness. His parents Wayne and Georgina have asked that people do not talk or refer to it directly to him.
Meanwhile Connor is a typical lively boy who loves cars and outdoor activities.
Connor’s family, and the Thanet community, including Piggybank Nursery in Westgate, are rallying to raise money to enable him to benefit from the latest appropriate treatments, as and when they become available, most likely in America.
The little lad’s plight has spurred people across east Kent into action to raise funds on his behalf. The football on Sunday has been arranged by P H Accountancy of Whitstable.
There will be a fathers versus sons match at 2pm followed by a semi pros versus extreme amateurs game at 3pm.
Non players and family members willfind plenty to amuse them beyond the sidelines including a raffle, bouncy castle, face painting and stalls.
Baypoint is at Ramsgate Road, Sandwich, CT13 9QL.
The next major event where cash will be raised in aid of Caring For Connor is the traditional family fun day at Westgate Community Centre, Lymington Road, on Sunday, September 15, from 11am-4pm. The attractions will include tractor rides and laser quest, traditional Punch and Judy and “splat the rat” as well as performances by local dance troops, martial arts grops and the Kensei Taiko Drummers.
