A former GP surgery is set to be turned into a six-bedroom home.
The practice in Queens Road, Broadstairs moved to another location nearby in 2015 and then became a language school, but the vacant property will now be converted into a house.
The plans, put forward by education firm Kent School of English (KSE) have been approved by Thanet District Council (TDC).
Documents lodged with the scheme read: “This practice moved away from Queens Avenue in approximately 2015 and is now - via a historic merger of two practices and subsequent move from other premises - located at Broadstairs Health Centre.”
Broadstairs Town Council made no objection to the plans, and nor did any neighbours or the public.
An NHS representative told TDC: “The site is not required for GP use, and the Integrated Care Board would have no requirement for this to remain for health uses.”
Cllr Kristian Bright (Lab), who represents the Viking Ward, where the building is situated, said: “It hasn’t been a GP surgery since 2015 and moved to Broadstairs Health Centre, which is only about 100m up the road.
“We’re not losing anything in the town and we just had the new health hub approved in Broadstairs.”
In January, TDC’s planning committee approved plans for a health hub on Northwood Road, which will offer primary care for 7,000 patients and up to 60,000 appointments a year.
Cllr Bright added: “It’s a repurposing of a property that doesn’t affect the community negatively in any way.”
On March 27, TDC published a notice that planning officers had decided to approve the planning application
