Former art wild child Tracey Emin has taken another step towards becoming part of the Establishment with a starring role in Marks & Spencer’s latest advertising campaign.
Margate-born Tracey joins Oscar-winning actress Dame Helen Mirren, Olympic gold-medallist boxer Nicola Adams and author Monica Ali to replace Sixties model Twiggy in the retailer’s latest adverts.
Renowned photographer Annie Liebovitz photographed a dozen successful British females who have “broken boundaries, challenged stereotypes and created visionary artistic work” in the campaign, called Meet Britain’s Leading Ladies.
The line-up also includes singer Ellie Goulding, former ballerina Darcey Bussell and acid attack victim Katie Piper.
Royal Academy professor of drawing Tracey claims: “I spend half my life in Marks & Spencer’s pyjamas.”

She got involved in the ad campaign because: “it wasn’t about what you look like, it’s about what you do”.
On a campaign video on the store’s website she says: “my greatest asset is my ability to create something out of nothing and my enthusiasm for airplanes.”
