Four children were rescued after their inflatable boat drifted out to sea.
The vessel, which also had a woman on-board, was floating off the Ramsgate coast this afternoon when it started to bob away from the shore.
Lifeboat crews were called out to save the occupants of the vessel, which was close to the town's harbour, at about 1.45pm.
A spokesman said: "As the lifeboat arrived at the scene two other women were trying to make their way to assist.
"We picked up the five from the inflatable and the two other women."
The pair who had travelled out to help the struggling inflatable were taken back to their families on the beach.
Meanwhile, the five others were brought back to the RNLI boathouse.
