More than 100 friends and relatives took to the streets of Thanet to remember car crash victim Ben Maitland.

The 19-year-old classic car enthusiast was killed on February 11 when the Vauxhall he was a passenger in crashed into a wall in Stone Road, Broadstairs.

On Friday night a motorcade organised on Facebook toured Ben’s favourite places, before arriving at East Cliff car park, Ramsgate, to let off Chinese lanterns.

Ben was a member of Thanet Classics Car Club, which is organising a convoy to follow the teenager to his funeral on Friday, March 2.

Ben’s friends have produced stickers depicting his beloved Mini. They are being sold for £2 each to raise funds to restore the car, so it can enter the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run later this year.

Ben’s funeral is at Holy Trinity Church, Cliftonville, at 2.30pm. His family has said anyone wishing to attend will be welcome.
