Children at Upton Junior School now have a dedicated place to confide in their friends thanks to the donation of a 'buddy bench'.

Made out of recycled plastic, the colourful seat has been delivered and installed in the playground of the Broadstairs school.

It is designed to combat loneliness and foster friendship in the playground, the 'buddy bench' initiative has been developed by home improvement retailer Wickes to help improve children's confidence at school.

Head teacher Darci Arthur said: "The new buddy bench is a very welcome addition to our school, to help new and existing friendships blossom is an important part of school life and growing up.

"We are very grateful for Wickes for gifting us with this bench and look forward to seeing more friendships blossom as a result."

The bench was presented to the school on June 20.

Olivia Pettman, store colleague Wickes Broadstairs, said: "We're delighted to support the community with this initiative, which will ensure that children at Upton Junior School can now have a unique place to develop new friendships and confide in others.

"With a brightly coloured, eye-catching bench in the playground, we hope more children will be encouraged to use it to open up to their peers and help build their confidence at school."
