The funeral of a scooter enthusiast from Ramsgate was held earlier today.

Joe Tocci came off his Lambretta on the M2 motorway near Faversham earlier this month and suffered serious head injuries. He was flown by air ambulance to the William Harvey Hospital, Ashford, but later died.

Mr Tocci, a 45-year-old mechanical engineer, moved from London to Thanet with his family when he was a boy. He enjoyed fishing in the harbour, exploring archaeology through metal detecting and trawling charity shops for old ska and northern soul records.

His daughter Lucy celebrated her 12th birthday last month and one of her father's last gestures was to assemble a BMX bike for her.

The youngster, who goes to school in Broadstairs, wrote a moving poem for her dad, which she was due to read at the funeral.

Mr Tocci's biggest love were his scooters. He had built vehicles from scratch and had made many friends through his hobby.

His mother Kay said: "Joe was very sociable. He had a good sense of humour. He was always right and he would tell us so!"

Mr Tocci leaves his partner Sarah, as well as Lucy, Kay, four sisters and a brother and nine nieces and nephews.

His funeral took place this morning at St Ethelbert's Church, Ramsgate.

Instead of flowers, his family asked for donations to be made to the Kent Air Ambulance.
