A 13-year-old girl from Ramsgate has been crowned Kent champion in the Individual Women’s Foil competition.

Georgia Silk, who attends Chatham and Clarendon Grammar School, competed in the adult competition on Sunday and at the break was 4-10 down.

However the teenager, who has been fencing since she was nine, fought back to win the championship 15-14.

Georgia’s father Keith Silk, 45, of Margate Road said: “We were immensely proud of Georgia, she didn’t lose a fight in the Kent championships.

“This is her first year in the adult competition and she got to bring home the amazing trophy.

“She is now fencing all over the country and she’s been to Paris. On Friday, we are off to Poland for a competition with the England squad.”

On Saturday, she competed in the Southeast championships at under 14 level, narrowly missing out on gold to England teammate Tara Salaba.

She will compete in Sheffield later this year at the British youth championships.
