Grammy winning artist Evelyn Glennie who has performed with Bjork heading to Ramsgate Festival of Sound

A triple Grammy winning artist will be performing in Thanet this summer.

Dame Evelyn Glennie, who has worked with the likes of Bjork, Steve Hackett from Genesis and Mark Knopfler from Dire Straits, is due to take to the stage at the Ramsgate Festival of Sound.

She is joining one of the UK's most exciting young jazz bands for a one-off concert at the festival in July.

Dame Evelyn is regarded as one of the world's best percussion players and has worked with orchestras and major artists around the world performing at the London Olympics opening ceremony in 2012 and the Albert Hall.

At the festival next month, which is celebrating it's 10th anniversary, she is collaborating with Trio HLK, an improvisational emsemble.

The line-up features more than 80 musicians in venues around Ramsgate and is set to attract 20,000 visitors to the town between July 20 and 28.

The concert by Dame Evelyn and Trio HLK will take place at the 500-seat Taylor Hall at St Lawrence College from 7.30pm on July 25.

Festival producer Andrew Gibson said: "We are very lucky to have such prestigious international musicians as Dame Evelyn Glennie and HLK playing in Ramsgate.

"Their style has been described as contemporary classical with an improvisational jazz approach."

But Dame Evelyn, who has produced more than 30 albums during her career, says it is "difficult to define the music" but says that's not important to them.

"It’ll be a unique mixture of influences hopefully unlike anything you've heard before. Every concert is a unique experience," says Richard Kass, the drummer from Trio HLK.

Tickets for the show and other events in the festival are available via the website.
