A pub with standing room for six people has opened in Margate.

The 11ft by 6ft 6" space housed in The Old Kent Market features more drink choices than people able to fit in the venue.

The former sushi bar has been called The Little Prince after pub landlord Andy Barrett's favourite children's story, Le Petit Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, which was made into a film earlier this year.

Mr Barrett, 68, who also co-owns the Belgian Cafe in Ramsgate, said: "We think that it is the smallest pub in the UK but nothing is verified yet.

"When I bought the place the fact that it might be smallest wasn't on my mind, there was a unit for sale and no pub in the vicinity so I though I'd go for it.

"Lots of people have been coming in and taking pictures since we opened last week - it is very popular.

"It only fits about six people in at a time although if they're skinny we can get a couple more!

"The name comes from a famous children's story and I had a pub called the Prince of Orange in the 70s so there is a bit of a connection."
