Trees adorning doves bearing personal messages make for a beautiful spectacle in the grounds of Thanet’s Pilgrims Hospice.
More than 300 people gathered in the Margate hospice’s gardens for the annual Trees of Love fundraiser to share cherished memories of loved ones, while collecting money for the charity.
Young helpers Millie, Lillie-Starr and Madison, all aged 12, were on hand to welcome guests.
Sara Scriven, Pilgrims Hospices individual giving manager, said: “We cannot thank everyone enough for their generous donations to Trees of Love.
“The trees look so beautiful with everyone’s personally-dedicated doves shining in memory of their loved ones.
“Sharing thoughts and being part of our hospice family keeps our loves ones firmly in our hearts.”
With events held annually also at the Canterbury and Ashford hospices, more almost £80,000 has been raised.
Sara added: “£80,000 is such an amazing amount of money to raise for hospice care.
“It could pay for many hours of nursing care on our wards, within the wellbeing and therapy centres or in patients’ homes.”
Reverend Ken Cox welcomed visitors, followed by readings from staff and volunteers from Pilgrims Hospices on Saturday, December 8.
Music was played by the Salvation Army band and carols were sung by choirs from local churches led by choirmaster Tim Attride.
Guests shared mince pies, hot chocolate and mulled wine.
Sara added: “Trees of Love wouldn’t be possible without the amazing support of our communities, including the help of so many volunteers who give their time and skills every year to make the events run smoothly.”
Two trees were donated by Cloughs in Barham, festive lights and bulbs from City Electrical Factors, Canterbury and tree lights by Goodwins Power Tools in Margate.
The Trees of Love and their doves will remain in the grounds until the New Year.
