Huge fire takes hold at K Laundry Ltd in Northwood Road, Ramsgate

A huge fire erupted this morning at a Kent business founded almost 100 years ago.

Dramatic footage shows flames pouring from K Laundry Ltd in Northwood Road, Ramsgate.

There were 12 fire engines at the scene of the blaze, which started shortly after 4am.

The response have since been scaled back, but four engines and a height vehicle are still at the scene.

People as far away as Deal reported seeing black smoke billowing from the industrial building.

Residents in the area are still advised to keep their windows and doors closed.

In an update at 11am, the fire service said: “Firefighting operations at an industrial fire on Northwood Road in Ramsgate have been scaled down to four fire engines and a height vehicle.

“However, people living or working in the wider Northwood area are still advised to keep windows and doors closed.

“The KFRS volunteer response team are still in attendance.”

Kent County Council says Northwood Road is closed and is expected to remain shut for the rest of the morning.

K Laundry Ltd, a commercial laundry and linen hire specialist, was established in 1928.
