Colourful creations of all shapes and sizes brightened leaden grey skies as Margate held its annual International Kite Festival.

Enthusiasts from across Europe swooped on the town over the
weekend and the eye-catching airborne attractions did not
disappoint.

Giant cartoon favourites including Porky Pig, Daffy Duck and
Sylvester filled the skies, as smaller kites jostled for position.
Other high-fliers ranged from teddy bears, owls and African masks
to crabs, fish and squid.

The festival, organised by The Kite Society of Great Britain (KSGB), traditionally brings the curtain down on Margate's summer events programme, as winter blows in.

Now in its fourth year, the event is a firmly established part
of KSGB's annual tour, which takes in Weymouth, Blackheath and
Portsmouth before visiting the Thanet coast.
