Isle of Thanet Extra and kmfm for Thanet’s Mum of the Year is Kate Crosher from Margate, who won our competition after a moving nomination from her young daughter Lydia.
Lydia, 12, wanted to say a heartfelt thank you to her wonderful mum, who spent six months at her bedside when she was diagnosed with cancer eight years ago.
Kate kept a constant watch while her daughter underwent treatment at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, and the 40-year-old capped a challenging six months by giving birth to her son Simeon in another hospital during the same period!
Lydia nominated her mum by saying: “Mummy makes lots of things, especially her scrummy muffins, and is always helping out with journeys to and from school clubs and the hospital, not to mention finding time to give me hugs and kisses.
“She stayed with me when I had cancer and works hard to look after my disabled grandma. I love my mum.”
Kate was presented with a beautiful bouquet of flowers, a box of chocolates and a bottle of champagne, courtesy of Kent Children’s Information Service, plus a day trip to France for four people, courtesy of P&O Ferries, who will also provide lunch for Kate and her family in the on-board Langan’s Brasserie.
Carol Davies, Isle of Thanet Extra editor, said: “Everyone in the office was really moved by Lydia’s nomination and Kate is a worthy winner.
“We hope that the flowers, chocolates, champagne and trip make her feel special because she truly is.”
Kent’s overall Super Mum is Barbara Newbury from Sheerness, who was nominated by her daughter Jasmine.
Barbara, who looks after her severely disabled 14-year-old son, wins a Virgin Balloon Flights Celebration Package, which includes a flight for two worth £590, a traditional champagne toast and a £40 Virgin Wines voucher.
