As Kent faces another hot day amid the heatwave, people are swarming to the beach in a bid to catch some rays.

Thousands have flocked to Broadstairs today with a picture showing the sands practically covered with families enjoying the sun.

Earlier this week, KentOnline reported the county could see its hottest day of the year this weekend after the Met Office said six days of heat above 30C was also on the cards for many areas. This is the first time this has ever happened in September.

But it is not just the beach people have headed to. St Andrews Lakes in Halling sold out yesterday with just a few rentals left for today.

In a post on Facebook, the outdoor activity site wrote: “We are fully booked out on all activities and beaches today! Please be advised you will not be able to enter the lake without a booking confirmation.

“There are still a few spaces left on rentals tomorrow and then from Monday onwards we have plenty of availability. Come and enjoy a lounge in the sun or a relaxing paddle whilst the kids are back at school.”

The warm weather has also been experienced at the Salute to the 40s event at Historic Dockyard Chatham.

A post on the Dockyard’s Facebook page this morning warned visitors to expect “another scorcher”.

“Salute to the '40s day two - let's go! Tickets are available on the door if you don't have them already.

“Don't forget the sunscreen, it's going to be another scorcher.

High temperatures are expected to continue throughout the afternoon but start falling as we enter next week.
