A flytipper has been prosecuted after collecting people's rubbish for money - and then simply dumping it in public places.

Ian Alexandra advertised his services on social media sites, promising customers he would dispose of their unwanted items.

He has now been ordered to pay more than £1,400 at Medway Magistrates Court after pleading guilty to two offences of flytipping.

The 35-year-old, of Central Road, Ramsgate, dumped a pile of black bags in Elmwood Avenue in Broadstairs before flytipping in St Peters Footpath, Margate.

Cabinet member for operational services Cllr Suzanne Brimm said: “Clearing up fly-tipped rubbish costs the council thousands of pounds every year – money that could be used to provide positive services for local people.

“It is totally unacceptable and anyone caught is likely to be prosecuted, which can lead to a hefty fine.”

Mr Alexandra was fined £270 for each of the offences which were both committed last month.

Alongside the £540 fine, he was ordered to pay clear up costs of £878.69 and a victim surcharge of £27. This came to a total of £1,445.69.
