A burglar has been jailed for three years for a botched raid on the home of a titled lady in Broadstairs.
John Lunn, 25, was spotted after forcing a glass panel at the home of Lady Balfour in Callis Court Road in December.
Canterbury Crown Court heard how 80-year-old Lady Balfour was in hospital at the time – and Lunn and his brother left empty-handed.
An eye-witness walking along Grange Road spotted two men running away – and then heard a burglar alarm sounding.
Police officers arrived and found two men crouching nearby, one of them covered in shards of glass.
Lunn, of no fixed address was jailed for three years after falling foul of the three-strike rule which follows the conviction of three burglaries.
His brother received a similar sentence at an earlier hearing.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Adam Hinton said: "Lunn was out on licence when he committed this offence and he clearly has no consideration for what is right and legal.
"Let this result serve as a warning to other would-be burglars considering similar offences that police will continue to identify suspects and bring them before the court."
