A block of flats was evacuated after a fire broke out in a top-floor property.
A man in his 50s, who had breathed in too much smoke, was led to safety from the building in Cobbs Place, Margate.
Firefighters, police and paramedics were called just after 5am.
Crews arrived in four fire engines, and used high-pressure hoses to tackle the flames.
A ventilation fan was used to clear smoke and fumes from the building.
One other flat was damaged, and crews worked to salvage belongings and prevent flats below from being affected.
One man was treated by paramedics at the scene.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
