Three giant tortoises were rescued from a house fire and a man was given oxygen.

Fire crews were called to the small blaze in Crossways Avenue in Margate, where a garage was said to be affected.

A man was said to be suffering from the effects of breathing in smoke, and was treated with oxygen.

While there firefighters also rescued three giant tortoises from the back of the garage.

They used breathing apparatus, hose reel jet and ventilation fans to extinguish the blaze, which was out by 8am today.
