Mud, sweat and tears of laughter abounded when groups from Thanet competed in the KM Charity Team’s first ever Assault Course Challenge.
The event saw 35 adrenaline-charged teams power through a course of 19 specially-designed obstacles to raise sponsorship for their favourite good cause.
Thanet teams included Age UK, Smash the Fat teams A and B for Parkinson’s UK, Thanet Fatties for the British Heart Foundation, Polly’s Cool Stunt Operatives for Headway, Oasis Domestic Violence Service, and three NHS teams - NHS Thanet A and B, and the Supertroopers from Kent Community Health NHS Trust- all in aid of the Oasis Domestic Abuse Service.
Fastest through their paces among these were Age UK in just seven minutes and 20 seconds.
Team member Rosemary Solly, a receptionist at Age UK, said: “We had a great time, dressed up as Norah Batty for a bit of fun with flowery bloomers and hair curlers. It was very muddy but we had lovely weather. We made a real day of it, with a big team of supporters including colleagues, friends and family, so we were a noisy bunch.
“We held two training sessions ahead of the event, and visited the assault course for a trial run. We expect to collect about £900 in sponsorship overall.”
A total of £12k was raised for 30 charities represented, including the children’s road safety work of the KM Charity Team. Sponsors of the event from the Kent business community included Fowlmead Country Park near Deal, where the event was held, London Fancy Box Company, and Jenkinson Estates.
