A mother says she was disgusted to see a collection of toys covered in mould when Christmas shopping for her children.
Lucy Speller was at Home Bargains in Margate when she spotted a Play-Doh craft kit which she thought would be perfect for her four-year-old.
But, after having a closer look to see what was included, the mother-of-five noticed a paper roll inside was “awfully black” which had also affected sponges in the kit.
“I checked the others on the shelf to find one that wasn’t like it but there wasn’t – there were seven on the shelf all the same,” she said.
“I thought I’d inspect closer to see if it was something I could remedy at home rather than pass it up and that’s when I noticed it was mould on all of them.
“I informed a member of staff who then removed them. But that doesn’t help if anyone has already purchased this for their children and will be unaware.”
Miss Speller, 34, took photos of the craft kits, priced at £3.99, and says she is concerned about the same products in other stores.
She said: “I was actually disgusted by the fact that it was an item for a child, no one had noticed, and it wasn’t just one!
“Also a little concerned if it’s affected the same products at other stores as they obviously get a batch and distribute across multiple stores.”
Home Bargains was contacted for comment but no one was available to provide a statement.
