Pensioner Maureen Cook is counting her blessings after a huge tree crashed onto her Garlinge home during the wild weather.
The substantial eucalyptus tree, more than 30ft high, was brought down by high winds and smashed through her boundary fence at Dent-De-Lion Court.
It landed between her sun lounge and summer house, damaging the roofs and bringing down guttering on both structures.
The tree narrowly missed Mrs Cook’s bedroom on the corner of the bungalow, nearest the tree.
She says she had a lucky escape and that if the wind direction had been slightly different, the outcome could have been far worse.
Mrs Cook said: “It was about 8pm, I had been watching television and went to make a cup of coffee. I could not believe what I saw. I realise I am very lucky. It could have so easily have landed on my bedroom.”
Her friend Arthur Marsh said it had been “a miracle no one was hurt.”
