Firefighters tackle flat fire in Dane Road, Margate

Neighbours raised the alarm after a suspected arson attack on a flat in the early hours.

Firefighters were called to the blaze on the ground floor of the building in Dane Road, Margate at 3.40am after people on the first floor spotted smoke and flames.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to douse the fire.

Everyone got out of the building safely.

A fire service spokesman said: "There are no reports of any injuries and the cause is thought to be suspicious."

Emergency teams left the scene at around 4.30am.

Police are investigating.

A spokesman said: "Kent Police was called to a report of a suspicious fire by Kent Fire and Rescue Service at 4.05am on Wednesday 14 September in Dane Road, Margate.

"No injuries were reported and enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the incident."
