More jobs will be on the way soon with the arrival at Discovery Park, Sandwich, of another company attracted to east Kent.

Launched by world-leading fertility group Genea earlier this year, Genea Biomedx is developing practical, accessible, precise technology to improve IVF lab results.

The firm will move into its new building later this year with plans to recruit about 30 staff, which will take the total number of people employed on the former Pfizer site to more than 1,400.

Steven McArthur, Genea’s scientific director, has visited Discovery Park with other company staff members Tomas Stojanov, Sam Lanyon and Kim Giliam to meet Paul Barber the managing director of Discovery Park and Tim Ingleton from Dover District Council.

According to its website, the firm started life within a world-leading fertility clinic known as Sydney IVF (now called Genea).

For more than 25 years, it has worked hand in hand with embryologists, andrologists, clinicians and nurses to create consistently better outcomes for clinics and their patients.

Its website adds: “As Genea Biomedx, we plan to make a big impact on the way things are done in fertility by transforming our immense wealth of expertise into practical, accessible, precise technology that aims to significantly improve lab outcomes and ultimately patient outcomes.”

The one-time Pfizer site at Sandwich was sold after the pharmaceutical company announced in February 2011 that it was closing its base and the land is now known as Discovery Park.
