"Let's hear it for Thanet - it is on the way up and it is going places.
"In the last few weeks I have been out and about around the district and it is noticeable that economic recovery and regeneration is starting to make important inroads.
"You know me - I will talk something up if I believe in it and I am proud to state that I believe in the future of our island.
"Major projects like the Turner Contemporary art gallery and exhibition centre at Margate are clearly taking shape and promise an exciting future, with the development of the artists' quarter and cafe culture around the harbour arm, piazza and old town.
"The Dreamland heritage fun park project is a long term venture but I am sure it will be a sure-fire winner once all the finance is in place - Margate without Dreamland just isn't right.
"Ramsgate marina is a delight and the history and heritage of Broadstairs is perfect - both are perfect visitor locations and many areas would give their eye teeth to have such terrific assets.
"And then there's our award winning safe sandy beaches which have the highest number of Blue Flag awards in the UK, with many of the bays linked by beautiful clifftop coastal walks.
"The area continues to attract an increasing number of top events - national beach volleyball championships, international quad bike tournaments and this weekend's Big Event air and land festival, which this year features The Red Arrows.
"Come on listeners and readers - I'm backing Thanet, so why not join in and celebrate our lovely island. It really is a marvellous place!"
