Olympic gold medal winner Lizzy Yarnold has been appointed as the new ambassador for Active Ramsgate.
The athlete, who competes in the sport of skeleton, will be helping to promote activities and visits to the Ramsgate area over the coming year.
Lizzy, who is also her sport’s world and European champion said: “Keeping fit and active is so important and I’m delighted to be supporting such a valuable initiative. Getting out in the fresh air with friends and family and making the most of Thanet’s beautiful coastline and countryside, what could be better?
“I’ve heard about the activities that are planned for the future and those that are already in place, and they sound great; you can go for a themed walk, cycle part of the Viking Coastal Trail, go on a geocaching treasure hunt, play golf, get out on the water in a canoe, the list is endless.
“Make sure to treat yourself afterwards there are some lovely restaurants, bars and cafes all along the waterfront around the Royal Harbour. I urge everyone to visit Ramsgate and get active, I certainly will be.”
The initative, started by Ramsgate Town Council and managed by Explore Kent, is designed to support economic regeneration by promoting the Ramsgate area through its outdoor activities, such as walking, cycling, canoeing, seal and fishing trips, golf and geocaching trails.
This will be the third phase of the project – the second phase brought in more than £190,000 to the town in just one year alone – an increase of 20% on the first year.
