A new 24/7 gym which promises state-of-the-art facilities is set to open next month.
Thanet’s first PureGym will open the doors to its new branch at the former Poundstretcher in Westwood Retail Park, Broadstairs on February 7.
Thanet District Council green-lit the plan to transform the discount store into a gym in September after receiving no objections.
The fitness centre, which will create 12 new jobs, is spread across 15,000 sq ft.
This space will hold more than 220 pieces of gym equipment, including climbmills, steppers and rowing machines.
A PureGym spokesperson said: “We are delighted to be opening a brand new gym in Broadstairs.
“The Westwood Gateway Retail Park is a prime location for the people of Broadstairs and the surrounding areas to access the UK’s favourite gym, providing as many people as possible with access to our first class, low cost fitness facilities at a time when mental and physical wellbeing have never been more important.
“We look forward to welcoming new members to PureGym Broadstairs Westwood Gateway Retail Park – look out for our opening offer!”
Until now the nearest branch of the chain, which has more than 330 premises across the country, was a 30-minute drive away in Canterbury.
The new gym, which will be open from midday on Tuesday, February 7, will be open 24 hours a day throughout the week and will remain open while unstaffed.
Poundstretcher, the former tenant at the property, only stopped trading there several months ago.
The quick turnaround of the site was possible due to the minimal alterations made, which included the installation of a new doorway at the entrance and a number of air conditioning units.
Group exercise classes, a free weights area and free parking will also be offered by the fitness chain.
PureGym hopes to attract 4,500 members to its new Broadstairs branch, with membership offered from £9.99 a month.
