A lifeboat was launched after two people swam into the sea in an attempt to rescue a dog this morning.
The RNLI received a report that someone had gone into the water at Joss Bay in Broadstairs to save the pooch which had swam out.
The call was then cancelled, but the lifeboat was forced to launch when the Coastguard received a further report that the person, along with another, had entered the water to aid the dog.
The two people, along with the pet, safely made it back to shore and the Coastguard rescue team was alerted to check on the welfare of those involved.
Peter Barker, deputy launching authority at Margate lifeboat, said: "While it is understandable for people to attempt to rescue their dog if it swims out to sea we strongly urge them to stay ashore, keep the animal in sight and dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard."
