Police cordon off Dane Park in Margate after serious assault

A public park has been partially cordoned off by police after a young man was seriously assaulted.

The victim, a man in his 20s, suffered serious head and leg injuries in the attack, which happened in the early hours of this morning.

He was rushed to a London hospital, where his condition is described as being serious but stable.

Two areas of Dane Park in Margate have been cordoned off by officers - with several police cars parked on the grass.

One of the out-of-bounds areas is near the Thanet Colts Football Club, just off Dane Road.

A police spokesman said: "An investigation has been launched after a man was found with serious injuries in Margate.

An assault is reported to have taken place in the early hours, before 5.20am in Dane Park.

"A police cordon has been placed at the scene and enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the incident."

Officers are urging anyone who witnessed the assault or who has information that may assist the investigation to call Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting reference 31-0357.
