A person was treated for smoke inhalation after oil in a chip pan caught alight.
Crews on two fire engines were sent to a home in Tollemache Close, Ramsgate, just before 7.45pm yesterday to tackle the blaze.
Before leaving the property, the homeowner managed to close the internal door to the kitchen, which helped to stop the fire from spreading to other parts of the house.
Paramedics checked over one person at the scene after they inhaled smoke.
Officers have now offered advice to keep doors closed to help prevent flames spreading.
A spokesperson for the service said: “Firefighters always advise closing internal doors before going out or going to sleep, as a standard closed internal door can hold a fire back for between 10 and 30 minutes – giving residents more time to escape safely and it helps to keep exit routes clear of smoke.
“It’s particularly important to close doors leading into the kitchen, as that’s where fires are most likely to start.
“People can help to reduce these types of incidents by making sure cooking is not left unattended and checking hobs, ovens and grills are kept clear of anything that could catch alight.”
