Police are urging families to remain vigilant after two suspicious incidents involving young children.

On the first occasion, on Saturday, March 19, a man encouraged a five-year-old girl to sit in his car in Chichester Road, Ramsgate.

The quick-witted youngster said no and immediately alerted her mother.

Police are investigating a link with a second incident on Wednesday, March 23, when a man was said to have opened a garden gate in Millmead Road, Margate and spoken to a three-year-old in his back garden.

Det Sgt John Cooper said: "Clearly these incidents are concerning and we are keen to hear from anyone who has any information that will help us with our investigations.

"There has been a great deal of speculation and misinformation via the internet about these cases, and although I appreciate these messages are being circulated with the best of intentions, what we need is factual information that will allow us to run an effective investigation.

"Our advice to parents and guardians, who undoubtedly be worried about these events, is to remain vigilant, ensure your children are supervised and well versed in the potential risks associated in talking to strangers."

Police want to hear from anyone who may have information about these, or similar incidents, to come forward.
